An (rather lengthy) improvisation on this Dutch Pentecost hymn "Kom, heilige Geest, Gij vogel Gods" (Come, Holy Ghost, bird of God); the tune is the Genevan psalm 134, melody by Louis Bourgeois, 1551.
Played on the magnificent OAM sample set '1925 G.F. Steinmeyer Organ op. 1400'; the instrument is the organ of Ss. Corpus Christi Church at Berlin.
I dedicate this performance to prof. Helmut Maier (OAM), who produced this beautiful sample set (and many more!!!). Thanks Helmut for providing such high quality sets and therefore so many hours of joy while playing them :-)
You hear quite some fine colors of this versatile instrument:
- introduction of the hymn: Principals 8 (coupled) of the 3 manuals (
00:00)
- melody on Tuba 8 of Man.I (
00:44)
- Plena (acc) and solo on Man.III Reeds (
01:20)
- Strings (
02:48)
- dialogue on Sexquialter of Man.II and Fagott 16 of Man.III (
04:44)
- dark soft Reeds (
05:28)
- melody in Tenor on Klarinette 8 of Man.II (
06:16)
- harmonic and dynamic exploration (
06:56)
- Flutes (
12:19)
- dark colors that fit the minor version of the hymn (
13:05)
- bells ... (
16:07)
- finale, starting soft but developing to the impressive Tutti (
17:08)
Enjoy!
