2nd Movement from Sonata in C minor 'Canzona'

Whitlock's 'Canzona' has been likened to a work of Roger Quilter, 'Fair House of Joy' from his Seven Elizabethan Lyrics Op.10. Inspiration also came from a recuperative holiday which he and his wife Edna spent walking in the beautiful countryside surrounding Bradford-on-Avon. The full Sonata was given its first performance by the composer at an Organ Music Society recital at the West London Synagogue on the 8th March 1938 and published in the same month by the O.U.P. Hereford's 8' Cor Anglais (a stop requested in the score) would not sound out of place in the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre Organ! Headphones recommended.
