Another interpretation of this iconic piece. I have been reading about the shocking circumstances surrounding both the lives of Alain and Duruflé: Alain's tragic death in 1940 on the road outside Saumur and the horrific arrests of over 13,000 Parisian Jews including 4000 children (Vel'd 'Hiv') in 1942, the year this work was published. This work was truly a heartfelt memorial to Alain.
