| Description: | Boudewijn Zwart comes from a family of organists. He studied carillon at the Dutch Carillon School in Amersfoort and piano (major) at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam (the predecessor of the Amsterdam Conservatory). In 1990, he won all categories of the triennial "Queen Fabiola" International Carillon Competition in Mechelen (Belgium).
Together with Henry Groen (1957), Zwart formed the Dutch Carillon Duo for many years. He is the city carillonist of Dordrecht (Grote Kerk), Ede (Oude Kerk), Gouda (St. Janstoren), Amsterdam (Westertoren, Zuidertoren, and the Oude Kerk), Bergambacht (St. Laurentiustoren), Schoonhoven, IJsselstein, Barneveld, Apeldoorn, Wageningen, and Zeewolde. He has several compositions to his name. He is president of the international carillon association Eurocarillon. In addition to playing the fixed carillons in church towers, Boudewijn Zwart has developed a mobile carillon that allows concerts to be given anywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This carillon features fifty bronze bells. Under the title "Bell Moods," he gives concerts featuring classical music, jazz, and folk music. He also performs with various children's programs and family shows. |
