The fine baroque organ at Ansbach deserves a stately peice of music to show its prowess.
Georg Boehm was one of the most important German composers in the generation before Bach. According to CPE Bach, JSB "loved and studied the works of Boehm".
This piece comes from a Suite in D written for harpsichord, but it is in the style of a French orchestral suite, so you can imagine it being played on a string ensemble plus oboes and bassoon.
