The present Toccata BWV 913 is actually a harpsichord piece (see Pietro's rendition: https://www.contrebombarde.com/concerthall/music/44509), but it can also be played well on the organ. It is presented here in a modified version, BWV 913a, which contains a few simplifications in the last part.
The extensive piece is divided into several sections that flow smoothly into one another: it starts with an improvisational part, somewhat reminiscent of the North German style, followed by an almost romantic-sounding interlude (played with Hollfloit 8' and tremulant). This is followed by a lively first fugue, separated from the second fugue by a slow interlude that runs through seemingly endless harmonies.
