Description: | This aria 'Komm süsser Tod', BWV 478, was written by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) for solo voice is one of the pieces Bach contributed to Georg Christian Schemellis famous book of songs.
The first verse reads:
Come, sweet death, come, blessed rest!
Come lead me to peace
for I am weary of the world,
O come! I wait for you,
come soon and lead me,
close my eyes.
Come, blessed rest!
he organ transcription is written by Herbert Sumsion (1899–1995).
It is in three parts. It starts with a calm first part, featuring the clarinet as the solo voice, accompanied by lush strings. The second part features a choral-like setting, played on the diapason chorus of the Great with the oboe from the Swell coupled down (or Third coupled down, depending on the organ's division names). The third part repeats part of the first section, but with a slightly louder registration. |
