Had Mendelssohn managed to deliver the early sketches of the opening section of this Sonata to his sister for use at her wedding; and if this music had then received Royal patronage, we may now have had two Wedding Marches by this master! Details in the video and a timeline below:

On Felix's 8th visit to England, he was commissioned by Coventry & Hollier to write ‘three voluntaries’ for organ.

On vacation in Bad Soden with Cécile and family, composing and relaxing
July 25
Felix writes to his sister Fanny from Bad Soden asking for the organ piece
in A major ‘that l composed for your wedding’ (written in Wales)
August 9
Date on ms. of first movement of Sonata III
August 15
Felix writes again asking Fanny to make a further search for the piece
August 17
Date on ms. of second movement of Sonata III completed in Bad Soden near Frankfurt am Main. Felix’s health begins to fail

Both Felix and Fanny sadly die within 6 months of each other.
