I found two nice little pieces in an (really) old piano album. And there were two pieces that I combined to one. They had a quite similar approach: a "sound painting" of the christmas situation of a family.
The two composers are quite unknown. Leo Norden is a pseudonym for Wilhelm Aletter (1867-1934), for Mr. (or Mrs.?) Mewes I couldn't find further information.
So imagine a german family (children, parents, grandparents) in a totally different time and world, maybe in the year 1902. It is Christmas Eve at 3 pm. They walk to the church, afterwards back home. There they eat, talk, play, sing, celebrating christmas.
In the sheet are written the following subtitles:
0:00 Gang nach der Kirche (walk to church)
0:58 In der Kirche (in the church)
2:11 Auf dem Weg nach Hause (on the way home)
2:39 Feststimmung (festive mood)
3:43 Übergang zur Fröhlichkeit (moving on to joy)
4:24 Die Kinder singen (the children are singing)
5:09 Stille Nacht (Silent Night)
