A. L. E. Trutschel was the youngest of seven siblings. Already as a child he showed an extraordinary musical talent. His brother-in-law, the cantor and organist Kreubel in nearby Wümbach took him in and provided musical training. Even at the age of ten, he substituted for him when he played the organ.

In 1809 he moved to Rostock. He initially worked as a pianist. Soon he became very well known and received much recognition, so that "in the heyday of his activity he held undisputedly the first place in Rostock's musical circles." In addition to the piano, he played the violin, sometimes the harp, organized chamber concerts, and had a large circle of students as a music teacher. In 1823 he was appointed organist of the ''Jakobikirche''. In 1851 he arranged for the rebuilding and extension of its organ by Friedrich Wilhelm Winzer. In addition to church services and official functions, he played numerous organ concerts.

When he died at the beginning of 1869 at the ripe old age of almost 82, he was considered the "doyen among the sound artists of Mecklenburg".

He was married to Luise, née Winter. Two sons of the couple became music traders Ludwig (1826–1904) founded the music shop Ludwig Trutschel in Rostock in 1857 , Neuer Markt 18; Anton (1832–1895), who had studied with Ignaz Moscheles at the Leipzig Conservatory, ran a music and piano shop in Schwerin. From 1868 to 1883 he was also Grand Ducal Court Organist at the Castle Church in Schwerin. Both were purveyors to the court.
