Gustav Adolf Thomas 1842-1870
Wachet auf ruft uns die Stimme op. 19 Nr. 3
"6 leicht ausführbare Choral-Vorspilefür die Orgel"
Gustav Adolf Thomas was born in Reichenau near Zittau, Saxony, and trained in Leipzig, Saxony. In 1866, he moved to St. Petersburg, Russia, to become organist at the German-Lutheran St. Peter's Church.
his collection op 19 was published in 1880 and contains charming and succinct preludes for use in church services.
His chorale prelude "Wachet auf" is majestically laid out and its dotted rhythms are reminiscent of the style of French overtures.
A short introduction is followed by a short imitation of the second part of the choral verse.
