| Description: | Joop Schouten (1907-1983) was a Dutch organist and composer. In 1949 he was appointed organist of the new Pels organ at St Hippolytus Church in Delft. He played an important role in the musical life of the city and was very involved in the musical education of young people. In the fifties and sixties, he travelled extensively through several European countries and came into contact with many well-known organists and organ builders.
Two of the ‘Three pieces for house organ’ were published in 1972 and 1973. In the ‘Introduction’, the exclamatory notes at the beginning are labelled ‘L E O’ and ‘L E O N I S’. This may be a hommage to his former piano teacher Léon Orthel with whom he remained lifelong friends.
