Description: | This is the fourth and final movement of the Schafer Sonata for Organ. Score is shown in YouTube video.
Kenny Schafer (b. 2000) is a composer and pianist based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He holds a BMA in composition from Oberlin Conservatory and is currently a first year MM composition student at LSU School of Music. His music combines influences from a wide array of styles including Impressionist, Latin, jazz, Baroque, African, and pop music. Schafer’s music
demonstrates a strong passion for the great composers of the Western Classical Canon maintaining an artistic voice that is utterly contemporary. Current projects include recording and producing his pop song “Road Racer”, and a composing a four movement symphony, “The Malawian Symphony”.
Composer notes: My Organ Sonata is a testament to my love of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, a composer I have long revered, but had taken little from in my own compositions. I wanted to see if it was possible to write a piece using Bach's musical approach while maintaining my individual voice. |
