Cornelis Pameijer (also: Pameyer, 1870-1940) was a Dutch organist at the Westerkerk, Norderkerk and, from 1908, the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. One of his favourite stops there was the Vox humana, with which he often played the present piece, so that it was also called "The Song of Pameyer".
Feike Asma played a memorial concert for Pameijer in 1954, that was recorded on tape and in which this piece was also performed. The piece was reconstructed from this recording by Wybe Kooijmans and published by Edition J.C. Willemsem in 1993.
