| Description: | Franz Xaver Schnizer (1740-1785) was a German musician and composer.
At an early age he was chosen as one of the choirboys in the Capella of the Basilique in Ottobeuren. He studied the organ and composition.
After his entrance in the monastery he became in 1766 the organist of the Basilique in Ottobeuren.
After the death of the choirmaster he also took over his position in 1766.
Schnizer composed mainly sacred music for the church mainly messes, a requiem and organ pieces.
He died in Ottobeuren in 1785.
His works were mainly forgotten in the centuries that followed..
Some of it is now published by contemporary firms.
