Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in E minor BWV 533 is a succinct and compact pairing very much in the North German style. This work is similar in style to pieces by Buxtehude and Lübeck with its manual flourishes, pedal solos, and homophonic passages with dissonant suspensions. The great Jacques van Oortmerssen recorded this prelude and fugue on the mighty Hinsz organ in the Bovenkerk at Kampen so it seemed a fitting choice for my performance too.
