A piece by Bach from his Well Tempered Clavier Book 1. Adapted by Charles Gonoud for his 'Ave Maria'.
I don't often play Bach. 1. Others do it so much better than me 2. It isn't something that interests me a whole lot so I don't do it justice by my lack of interest. But when I do play it it has to be a special piece to me. This was one of the first pieces I learned when I started playing the organ and it is such a nice piece. I often find myself drawn to Bach's non-organ works such as this, Air in D, etc ... strange! A mathematician once told me Bach is maths in music... well I didn't much like maths at school !!!
The score called for alternating p and f sections. I did this by just coupling and de-coupling the manuals. It is subtle. The rest of the dynamics like pp were pretty much impossible without more juggling of stops. This organ's airy sound and surrounding noises make the perfect atmosphere and room for this piece.
Oh and don't ask why I sped up just after the page change... don't know why!!
