| Description: | Reger composed this toccata soon after his Symphonische Fantaisie op.57, a very difficult piece inspired by Dante's Inferno, as Reger wrote to the dedicatee.
So, I can't help to see the toccata op.59, much easier, as a kind of an "Inferno op.57 for the dummies" : the same strong sensations for the player, but at a much more affordable price.
At 4:03, I added a quicker trial version which is a bit on the frantic side, but perhaps more spontaneous than the first one at 0:00.
BTW from 3:03, the pedal part quotes "B.A.C.H" ; deliberate wink or pure hasard ? |
