Description: | I found this pleasant, but unremarkable, piece in the Village Organist collection I recently rediscovered on IMSLP. I must have played it as a boy, given the voracious (but not correspondingly accurate) sight-reader I was (and still am), but I have no memory of it.
William Warder Harvey was born in 1861 in Andover, Hampshire, where his family kept a shop and, I suspect, led a fairly severe lifestyle: they were vegetarian, teetotal, non-smoking and anti-vaccinationist. He evidently moved to Beccles in Suffolk at some point as he was organist there, but died in 1939 in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. He seems to have been a local go-to person as an accompanist for concerts, choral societies and so on. |
