What a festive concerto - an absolute highlight of Telemann's oeuvre is this double concerto for recorder, flute, strings and continuo.
My twin brother performed it several times in the late 70s, and the challenge is to present as fast a tempo as possible while still playing the runs cleanly. Fierce staccato alternates with beautiful legato and ornamentation.
Remarkable is the coda, which is almost identical to the coda of the last movement of Bach's Brandeburg Concerto No. 4. Who has copied from whom here? If I am honest, I find the Telemann version more beautiful, it fits better well with the overall structure of the piece.
More tempo than in this recording cannot be done with an organ sampler.
I tried it just a touch faster and the fast runs sound like mush.
I tried a few sample sets. The beautiful Mascioni organ in Giubiasco fits best.
Enough said - have fun!
