[New Free Tool] Console Craft: Build Hauptwerk Organs Visually via Drag-and-Drop (No XML)

There is something incredibly moving about the sound of the organ at Christ Church in Marina. I wanted to capture that magic and preserve it by creating a sample set, so I gathered my tools, Reaper, Audacity, loopauditioneer, rubber band and Hauptwerk CODM, and got to work.

But I quickly hit a wall. Building the virtual console meant writing endless, redundant lines of XML. Copying, pasting, and tracking code was draining the joy out of the project and keeping me away from the music itself.
I knew there had to be a better way. When I couldn't find one, I built it.

I am so incredibly proud to introduce Console Craft, a free, open-source visual editor for building Hauptwerk pipe organs.

Instead of hand-writing complex code, Console Craft lets you design a complete virtual organ console simply by dragging and dropping on a canvas. It handles the Hauptwerk CODM XML for you, so you can focus entirely on your vision: what stops exist, what they sound like, and exactly where they sit on the console.

Here is what Console Craft handles for you:

Visual Drag-and-Drop: Visually place your keyboards, drawknobs, couplers, tremulants, and nameplates exactly where you want them.

Pre-Built Logic: Select your 64ft harmonic pitches, couplers, and enclosures from built-in dropdowns without needing to know the raw math or numeric codes.

Pre-Export Validation: A built-in sanity check ensures you don't have duplicate codes, missing audio files, or broken connections before you export.

One-Click Export: It packages your XML and sample folders perfectly for Hauptwerk installation.

Whether you are trying to preserve the sound of your local parish organ or designing your dream custom instrument from scratch, I built this to help you bring it to life without the headache of coding.

Download the software (Free/Open-Source): https://consolecraftapp.gumroad.com/l/ilamlo

Learn how to use it: I have started a step-by-step video tutorial series. You can check out the tutorials here: https://youtu.be/NWy5QTa2nU4

I poured a lot of love into solving this problem, and I am so excited to share it with this community. I can't wait to see, and hear, the beautiful instruments you build with it!

Your website is beautiful and very professional. Do I understand correctly that the software is for design of any organ as it will appear on touch screens. No sample set is included. Your mention of the Marina organ made me wonder if that was included. Thank you for this very generous contribution to the organists of the world!

Thank you so much bayless. Your words are too kind. I was planning on sampling an organ here in Lagos so in the excitement I created the software to just simplify the repetitive process of copying and pasting XML code and consulting the Hauptwerk CODM for various codes. I liked it and I felt it was better sharing with the community as this might encourage people who never thought of making a sampleset easily go start recording a local parish organ. I am waiting to save for quality microphones to record the instrument I had built it to create its sampleset but I plan on doing videos on my youtube channel to explain a lot on sampleset creation even before that. Everything from extending ranks with rubber band lower or higher, recording, using loopauditioneer to add loop points for hauptwerk or grandorgue, using reaper and audacity and much more. If I ever get to sampling any organ then I will make the video of the entire process available. Console craft makes creating the Hauptwerk console and ODF a drag and drop affair pixel for pixel.
