Description: | Jeanne Demessieux was born 100 years ago this day on February 13th, 1921. This is No.9 of her wondrous 'Twelve Choral Preludes on Gregorian Chant Themes for Organ' (1947). Pupil of Dupré (privately from 1936-39), and organist at S. Esprit (app.1933 age 12!), and La Madeleine (from 1962). She had a prodigious memory and played around 2,500 pieces de mémoire, including the complete works of Bach, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Franck and Dupré (up to op.41). Dying tragically in 1968 aged 47 with cancer of the throat, she had planned to memorise and record with Decca (at Notre-Dame de Paris), the complete works of Messiaen.
(Also uploaded for St, Valentine's Day!) 'Where charity and love are, God is there.' Does anyone know why the term 'Ricercare' was used after the title?
