Description: | Johann Heinrich Buttstett (1666-1727), a pupil of Pachelbel, was an organist of some churches in Erfurt (Thuringia, Germany).
His pupil Johann Gottfried Walther describes him as 'quirky scholar who is reluctant to pass on his knowledge', while Johann Gottfried Gregorii,a polymath, praised Buttstett, along with Bach and some of his students, as the best contemporary organists of Germany.
Buttstett's chorale prelude "in dulci jubilo" is unique and quite unusual:
The melody, quoted in long notes in the bass, is accompanied by two discant voices, performing some long trills.
I prefered a flute-based soft and tender registration for this airy music. |
