This is a reflective setting of the hymn which Jan Mulder published for Violin and Piano/Organ. This is my transcription (almost note for note) for solo organ.
I am not sure why I find this simple piece so moving. Naturally the hymn is so relevant as we approach Remembrance Sunday here in the UK. The hymn tune is presented almost as it is sung but is preceded and followed by what might be described as a reflection. Whether this reflection has any harmonic connection to the hymn I cannot say. However, I think that the descending major triads echo phrases in both the Last Post and Sunset bugle calls.
