The Prelude follows the Flemish and British tradition of the Hexachord- Fantasias from the late Renaissance and the early Baroque period - very unusual for a composer from the Beethoven-period.
The Fugwe presents a very stringent contrpunctical work. The head-motiv of the subject is often used for canonic work as well as a contrasubject.
