Zöblitz may not seem like the most logical choice for this classic romantic chorale prelude, but Merkel (1827-1885), as organist of the Hofkirche in Dresden, played a famous Gottfried Silbermann organ.
No doubt he was also familiar with the instruments of the neighboring Sophienkirche and Frauenkirche (unfortunately later destroyed).
The organ of Zöblitz is smaller in size than those instruments, but large enough to show Merkel to its fullest.
