Two Préludes were created during a period when Alain was seriously ill in 1933 (age 22). He explained the German subtitle in a letter to a friend: “come on, one more time ”. A short quote in the score illustrates the first prelude; "After this night, another, and after that, yet another”, a reference to his illness. The records are taken from his own written score, intended for the organ of the Saint-Ferjeux basilica in Besançon, on which he tried out many of his works.
(Adapted from programme notes by Anton Doornhein.)
The work also exists as a piano piece and in several organ editions, each with variants of registration. Score available (1971 edition) on IMSLP at: file:///C:/Users/rcfie/Downloads/IMSLP470028-PMLP11613-Alain_Oeuvre_d'orgue_Tome_III.pdf
