Description:
Bunnett, Edward (1834-1923)
English organist and composer. Chorister at Norwich Cathedral.
1855-77 Assistant organist at the Cathedral. 1871-92 Conductor of the Norwich Music Union, and Norwich Music Festival organist. From 1880 Norwich City Organist. From 1908 organist at St Peters’ Mancroft, Norwich. A listing of his compositions are mainly Anglican church service music, with a few pieces for organ. Notes in NPOR shows that he defined(with others) a new organ in 1880 for the Norwich City Hall (St. Andrew’s Hall) a 2 manual instrument with large scale foundations, and with reeds on all divisions. This piece, Allegro moderato, published by Novello in 1898, is presented as an attempt to replicate the sounds of a “city organ”. The piece has a wide dynamic range. “p” to “ff” as marked in the edition.
