Description: | In 2013 a new hymnal was introduced for use in the PKN (Protestant Churches) of the Netherlands.
Many new hymns were added to the earlier edition of 1973, about three hundred and many other did not make the cut and were removed for various reasons. Texts were renewed and new melodies chosen from different countries and Dutch poets and composers.
So in addition to my small series of preludes to the Psalms I intend to do a similar series but this time on hymns and preludes. The idea is the same: present contemporary preludes to hymns, new or other, by Dutch composers.
071 Jezus wandlend langs de wegen.
Melody by Jaap Geraerdts // Words by Muus Jacobse
The prelude is by Jan Kleinbussink
Jan Kleinbussink (born 1946) is a Dutch classical musician who specializes in the performance of old music. He is the cantor-organist of the Central Church in Deventer, also known as the Lebuïnus Church.
He is also well known for his contributions as an instrumentalist and conductor to recordings of J.S. Bach, Buxtehude, Charpentier, Graupner, Händel, W.A. Mozart, and Telemann,
Jan Kleinbussink studied piano, organ, orchestra and choir conducting, composition and music theory at three Dutch conservatoires: Amsterdam, Deventer and Rotterdam.
After graduating he continued his specialization in baroque and renaissance music with Anton Heiller, Philippe Herreweghe, and Ton Koopman.
This hymn is about Jezus walking slowly along a road where he met ten people with leprosy.
He cured all of them: but only one ( a stranger) showed a form of gratitude, praising the Lord.
So Jezus asked: “Where are the other nine?” No answer.
So it goes….. |
