Jan Janca was born 1933 in Danzig and had first organ lessons with his father. From 1950-1955 he studied organ and composition in Krakow. In 1957 he did not return home from a recital tour, but stayed in Germany and studied composition with Johann Nepomuk David in Stuttgart and organ with Marcel Dupré in Paris. From 1962 to 1996 he worked as an organist in Tübingen, as a teacher of music at a theological seminary and at the Hochschule für Kirchenmusik at Rottenburg.
Jan Janca died in 2023 in Tübingen.
This prelude comes from Janca’s “Das Kirchenjahr in 16 Choralvorspielen” and was published by Strube.
