The Sächsische Landesbibliothek – Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Dresden (SLUB) owns a manuscript (Mus.1-U-514) which contains works by Johann Christian Kittel. They range from very short preludes to elaborate sets of variations. One of these sets is the set of variantion on “Straf mich nicht in deinen Zorn”. It’s not clear to me whether Kittel meant them to be played as a set. The chorale and the first variation look like they should be played with the use pf the pedals. The second and third variation are manualiter. Above the fourth variation Kittel writes in the manuscript “For organ”. So the other variations are not meant for organ? They should not be played as one set? I don’t know. I present them here as a set. But each of the variations can very well be played as a stand alone piece.
The recording was done on the surround-demo of this sample set. Evert-Jan of the Dutch hauptwerk-forum moved both 16-feet stops from the manual to the pedals, which makes it a bit more easy to use in literature like this piece by Kittel.
