Composer: Purcell, Henry
Sample Producer: Lavender Audio
Sample Set: Hereford Cathedral Willis Organ
Software: Hauptwerk IV
Genre: Baroque
Description:
"Trumpet Tune" from Henry Purcell's (1659-1695) semi-opera, "King Arthur", taken from "Ceremonial Music for Organ, Book 2" by Oxford University Press.

Arranged by Christopher Dearnley (1930-2000), former organist of St. Paul's Cathedral in London, this "light" fanfare in the key of C major, shows first the Trumpet of the Swell, and then the Tromba of the Solo.

This is the "sort" of piece that you might hear in a movie such as "Robin Hood," starring someone like Errol Flynn, as he and his band of merry men fight off the bad guys and when the hearts of the ladies.

I dedicate this performance (and the comparitive one) to my "new" Hauptwerk friend, who I had the great pleasure of meeting last week! He is trying to decide whether to get the Hereford or Salisbury sample set.

Here is an interesting obituary about the the arranger, Christopher Dearnley. http://www.theguardian.com/news/2001/jan/24/guardianobituaries1

As I understand it, he and his wife were practicing nudists...

Anyway, as you listen to this, you can picture Errol Flynn, if you know who he is, running around...

In his tights...

Or not... ;-)
