Sample Sets for Sale

Uploaded by: ajongbloed (05/14/24)
Composer: Seger, Josef Ferdiand Norbert
Sample Producer: Hauptwerk NL
Sample Set: Verschueren positif organ, Oosterhout (1977)
Software: Hauptwerk VII
Genre: Baroque
Description:
The numbering of this fugue and the preceding prelude in manuscript Becker III.8.63 (16a and 16b) suggests they belong together and should be played as one "Prelude and Fugue". If that's true than it is the only pair in the manuscript, as all the other pieces are numbered consecutively. It seems more likely therefore that the numbering stems from an error and one of the two was skipped when the numbers were added.

Whatever the reason, the fugue itself is absolutely charming. The fugue theme itself appears no less than 16 times complete in the fugue and motifs from the theme are heard numerous times. Not only amazes Seger with the quality of his counterpoint, but also with how natural it all sounds, never forced or fatiguing.
