And undeterred, I continue. With this Prelude and Fugue in D sharp minor, the first third of the project is completed with 8 compositions. D sharp minor? Oh dear, but it's part of the plan, and you can't just leave out a key just because there are a lot of black keys to press. But it is also the case that the closer we get to the lower part of the circle of fifths, the more white keys are used again. D-sharp minor is 6 accidentals, I could have chosen E-flat minor and then it would have been 7 accidentals.

It doesn't matter, the prelude is something completely different from the 7 pieces before it, even from the point of view of the notation. Neo-baroque now shows its romantic side, many curved bows suggest a legato, and the name of the movement already anticipates it: a haunting, somewhat lost and sad-sounding motif is "processed" in the 2.5 minutes of the prelude.

The subsequent fugue is in complete contrast to this. This is how we know the neo-baroque: lively and with a lot of staccato, 4 voices are led through the circle of fifths in an expansive fugue. The inversion, the motif backwards and the organ point on the dominant, everything is there that is needed for a strict fugue.

I have chosen the sample set of the Noeske organ at Kassel Niederzwehren, which is in any case well-tempered and expresses this impressively.

At the end, I leave out the full organ, only the trombone is added in the pedal. Have fun now with the 8th composition of my project!
