Benjamin Thorn (b. 1961) — Genug (2012) for organ

The composer writes: “This work was commissioned by the New England Bach Festival in New South Wales, Australia. It is essentially a very, very slow reworking of the J. S. Bach chorale ‘Es ist genug! So nimm, Herr.’ It creates a sound world of almost suspended animation where each slight change appears like an architectural feature suddenly coming into focus.”

Australian composer Benjamin Thorn (b. 1961) grew up in Canberra and studied at the Canberra School of Music and the University of Sidney. He has pursued extensive activities across numerous creative arts as a composer, recorder performer, collagist, print maker, installation curator, and theater stage director (where he has a particular interest in dramatizing poetry). Thorn has been a member of the music education faculty at the University of New England (Armidale, New South Wales, Australia).
