Composer: Cochereau, Pierre
Sample Set: Grand Symphonic Cavaillé-Coll Extension
Software: Hauptwerk IV
Genre: Modern
Description:
A few years ago I heard this composition at an American Guild of Organists convention and was mesmerized by it. The tonal language of Pierre Cochereau has always appealed to me and I found this to be a very compelling and accessible work.

Here is what the transcriber, Frédéric Blanc, translated by Andrew Sims, had to say about the piece:
“Berceuse à la mémoire de Louis Vierne (Lullaby in memory of Louis Vierne) was improvised by Pierre Cochereau at the great organ of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris in May 1973. This piece was recorded as a long-playing record by Philips.

In this improvised piece, Pierre Cochereau pays homage to Louis Vierne (1870-1937), who was his predecessor in Notre-Dame (1900-1937), and who composed a lullaby to the melody "Dodo, l’enfant do," which was published in 1914 in the collection "Pièces en style libre." The art of the poet Pierre Cochereau is fully displayed here.”
