Every recording project that I have undertaken has been a considerable learning experience. Among other things, this one was a reminder that musical instructions - tempo marks, terms like staccato and legato, and note values - are not to be taken as carved in stone by the composer. Dupré, a stickler for details, can be heard in his own recording of this piece ignoring his tempo markings, playing legato marked passages staccato, and dramatically altering the length of the final note values for dramatic effect. This calls to mind that intuition plays a considerable part in music making and that the composer cannot always communicate on the page what his true intentions are.
