This atmospheric prelude is based on the 18th century American hymn tune MEAR.

Jim Dalton (b. 1957) is an active composer and multi-instrumentalist. As a performer on guitar, mandolin, and other plucked instruments, Dalton appears frequently in concert with his wife Maggi Smith-Dalton as well as with orchestras and chamber ensembles. Dalton was the 1997 winner of the Toronto Camerata Competition and his works have been performed by soloists and ensembles throughout the USA, Canada, and Europe. He is a member of the music theory faculty of the Boston Conservatory.
