Präludium und Fuge cis-moll op.13 Nr.04

Prelude and Fugue in C-sharp minor, Op. 13 No. 4 is one of the more restless pieces from the second part of my Well-Tempered Organ.

The prelude is driven by almost continuous movement, while the four-part fugue puts its theme through quite a workout: inversion, retrograde, augmentation in the pedal, and finally stretto before an energetic, full-organ conclusion.

Perhaps the piece picked up a little extra volcanic energy from my recent stay on Ischia — Vesuvius did, after all, make itself noticed yesterday. Pure coincidence, of course ;-)
