"Nun danket alle Gott"

Karg-Elert’s evergreen Nun danket seems like a great opener from me on this splendid and hugely interesting new sample set from Pipeloops.

I am rather more at home on English and French organs or the huge “universal” modern organs from any country so this instrument is testing me in many ways and stretching my repertoire (which I do hope to demonstrate!). Obviously this is not stretching it, BUT to play it pomposo con brio and include all of the variety of articulation markings is a challenge especially as one (and I guess a lot of you too) that learned this when too young as an early party piece to enjoy showing off a big noise!

Well this instrument shows you how it should be registered and how it perhaps could be played. The way that the pneumatic action has been captured through the pipe speech in this set really does make you play and phrase in a different way from, I don’t know, St Edmundsbury or Caen.

It is fascinating!!

So, I hope you will enjoy this glorious sound and it will make you wish to look at this set seriously when it is launched!
