Sinfonia 2 - mvt 1Prelude for Rosh Hashana

Herman Berlinski (Leipzig, Germany, 18 August 1910 – Washington D.C., 27 September 2001) was a German-born American composer, organist, pianist, musicologist and choir conductor. He wrote a number of pieces for organ, among them several Sinfonias (maybe not what one might expect for an organ symphonie, but still....) The 2nd sinfonia was actually published in 2 volumes, the first 2 movements in "Two Preludes for the High Holy Days", the last 3 in "Three Preludes for the Festivals. This first movement is filled with fanfares imitating the shofar, interspersed with softer (and louder) sections. It ends quietly and mysteriously. This is from a MIDI interpretation I did back in 2013. The big Northrop A-S works well for this movement. I hope you enjoy - this was my first exposure to the music of Berlinski... and is dedicated fondly to David aka Agnus_Dei.

WARNING - this starts pretty softly after the opening fanfare, but at about 2:20 it goes to a fierce tutti... you might want to be careful with your playback level!
