| Description: | This organ piece is based on “Der Zimmergesell”, No. 313 from Schauenburgs allgemeines Deutsches Kommersbuch. The source attributes the text to Goethe, 1774, gives the melody as a Volksweise, and adds the note “Volkslied. Nach G. Kühne. 1856.”
The song tells a humorous folk-ballad story about a young journeyman carpenter, a margravine, a stolen kiss, and a jealous margrave. What could have ended tragically is resolved with a wink: the margrave’s men admit that they would probably all have acted just like the young carpenter.
I liked the mixture of old folk-song charm, gentle irony, and narrative character, and used it as the basis for this organ arrangement.
This time I add the score for your convenience - have fun with the composition! |
