Short Preludes - Cadenzas - Versets

Michael Haydn (1737–1806), the younger brother of Joseph Haydn, was an Austrian composer of classical music. He served as court composer and organist at Salzburg for over 40 years; Leopold and Wolfgang Mozart were close contemporaries of his, and Carl Maria von Weber and Anton Diabelli were his students. At the age of 17, he composed his first major work, the “Missa in honorem Sanctissimae Trinitatis,” for the consecration of the cathedral in my hometown of Timișoara (RO) in the Banat region, even before he took up his post as cathedral music director in the neighboring diocese of Oradea (RO). Here in the Banat and among the Danube Swabians, the German High Mass “Hier liegt vor Deiner Majestät” (Here Lies Before Your Majesty) - also known as the parish fair Mass - is particularly well-known and remains forever in our memory.
Unlike his brother, Michael Haydn left several short and exquisite preludes, cadenzas, and versets for solo organ.
