A brief advance apology to a couple of distinguished colleagues on this site.
A few recordings ago, in response to comments on these earlier uploads, I hinted that a future installment of "Resonances Reimagined" might be regarded as slightly blasphemous. Well... this is that installment.
Both of you have presented Rameau's "Les Sauvages" with elegance, style, scholarship, and a level of refinement that reminds us why the piece has remained beloved for centuries. What follows here should therefore not be interpreted as an attempt to improve upon the original artifact. Quite the opposite. The artifact is beautiful.
My crime was simply to stare at it too long.
Having done so, I began wondering what would happen if the piece were viewed through a very different lens: part historical reflection, part contemporary commentary, part thought experiment, and perhaps part fever dream.
For any liberties taken with Monsieur Rameau, I offer my sincerest and most theatrical apologies.
For the rest, I blame the "Dies Irae."
