Offertoire en F ut fa sur le Stabat Mater

This is the 9th Offertoire from the third organ book of Nicolas Antoine Lebegue (1632 - 1702). It uses the old latin prayer commemorating the grief of Mary.

Stabat mater dolorosa
Iuxta crucem lacrimosa,
Dum pendebat filius.
Cuius animam gementem,
Contristatam et dolentem
Pertransivit gladius.

At the Cross her station keeping,
Stood the mournful Mother weeping,
Close to Jesus to the last:

Through her heart, his sorrow sharing,
All his bitter anguish bearing,
now at length the sword has pass'd.
