| Description: | Joseph Benedikt Falk (1757-1828) was an Austrian composer, organist and priest.
He was the son of Georg Paul Falk (1713–1787), the parish organist of Innsbruck.
In 1765, at the age of eight, he was presented to Empress Maria Theresia as a child prodigy during her visit to Innsbruck and was even allowed to perform for Emperor Franz I.
The meeting between father and son Mozart and father and son Falk in Innsbruck in 1769 must have been very exciting.
Although Josef Benedikt Falk had already completed successful concert tours at a young age, including in Italy, he chose the clergy and was ordained a priest in 1780.
He became a sought-after piano teacher and wrote several compositions for his students, which were used, for example, by the Dominican nuns in Lienz, East Tyrol.
In 1778, after his father's death, J. B. Falk took over his position as parish organist at Innsbruck, St. Jakob, the later cathedral.
His preludes represent the solemn prelude style of his time, which is rich in figurations and imitations.
Each of these eight little preludes has its own distinct character, making them an excellent opportunity to showcase diverse tonal colors of the magnificent Trinity Organ in Ottobeuren Abbey. |
