Rolande Falcinelli was a student of Marcel Dupre, and succeeded him as organ professor at the Paris Conservatoire. She was a pioneer composer for the organ, searching for new techniques and greater virtuosity. She wrote several hours of organ music, much of it remains unknown to most organists.
This is the first movement of a 10-movement work "Esquisses Symphoniques - I - Largo Sostenuto (dedicated to Gérard Loisemant)
Falcinelli wrote this work in 1971 and dedicated it to her 1970-71 organ class at the Paris Conservatiore. Each movement is dedicated to one of the students, and uses a musical spelling of their name somewhere in the piece as a theme.
The notes in the preface don't specify, but I wonder also if she wrote a musical picture of each student's temperament as well!
