Marche Veilleur de Nuit

Number 4 of Widor's "Bach Memento: Six pieces pour orgue" offers a reworking of the main theme and Chorale of Bach's Chorale Prelude on Wachet Auf. With clear romantic leanings, particularly in the handling of the chorale, Widor has preserved some of the Baroque character of the main theme, annotating the registration as R Mixtures (though with G Fonds 4,8,16). The title means literally "March (or walk) of the night watchman", perhaps providing a slightly different emphasis from "Sleepers wake".
