Stellwagen Organ, 1655-1659, Stralsund |
Software: | Hauptwerk VIII |
Genre: | Baroque |
Description: | Buxtehude composed these pieces in 1674 as funeral music for his father. According to the manuscript, they are more likely to be classified as vocal music, e.g., solo singing accompanied by instruments, for which there are numerous examples on YouTube.
Evolutio I presents the counterpoint transposed by a fifth, and Evolutio II mirrors Contrapunctus II. The registration corresponds to this structure, but in Evolutio II, an additional mixture was used because the text is of a more joyful nature.

01:45 Evolutio I
03:15 Contrapunctus II
