Allein Gott in der Höh' sei Ehr BWV 676
à 2 Clav. et Ped.
Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr (All Glory be to God on High), BWV 676, is a organ chorale prelude by Johann Sebastian Bach, featured in Part III of his Clavierübung , published in 1739. Clavierübung III is a collection of organ works designed for liturgical use within the Lutheran church, encompassing a diverse range of styles and technical challenges.
While Bach wrote multiple chorale settings on this famous hymn, this particular setting (BWV 676) is a technically highly demanding chorale trio that need not fear comparison with the famous trio sonatas. The chorale melody is subtly woven into the three-part texture and sometimes even appears as a canon between the upper voice and bass. Here Bach shows himself at the height of his art in the treatment of chorale melodies.
